Accessibility Statement

Odisee aims to be a learning, working and living environment where everyone feels welcome. Digital accessibility plays an important role in this. By making our websites, documents and digital applications as accessible as possible, we want to remove barriers and ensure that everyone can easily access information, learning materials and online services.

Digital accessibility helps us avoid excluding anyone and reflects our belief that studying and working are things we do together.

What measures are we already taking to improve accessibility?

Odisee is taking several steps to strengthen the digital accessibility of its websites and digital communication:

  • Through awareness initiatives, we regularly highlight the importance of inclusion and, consequently, digital accessibility.
  • Digital accessibility receives attention in the daily work of staff responsible for web content and communication.
  • Accessibility is taken into account when purchasing and developing digital tools and services.
  • We will commission an independent accessibility audit and are working towards an action plan by June 2026.

Legal framework

Since 28 June 2025, the European Accessibility Act has been in force in the European Union. This directive aims to make digital products and services accessible to people with disabilities.

In addition, the Web Accessibility Directive continues to apply to the websites and mobile applications of public sector organisations.

Both directives refer to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) which describe how digital content can be made accessible according to four principles: perceivable, operable, understandable and robust. These guidelines are defined at three levels: A, AA and AAA.

Compliance status

At this time, no independent accessibility audit has yet been carried out for all Odisee websites and digital applications.

Based on internal assessments, we believe that our websites and digital communications are partially compliant with WCAG 2.1 level A.

This means that a significant part of the content already takes accessibility guidelines into account, but not all components fully meet the standard yet.

Possible areas for improvement include:

  • certain PDF files and other documents
  • images without alternative text
  • videos without subtitles or transcripts
  • forms or interactive applications that can still be improved

Odisee plans to carry out a further analysis by June 2026 and will work step by step towards structural improvements.
