Quiet rooms
On each campus, we have a quiet room or are working on one. This is a calm space where you can take a moment for yourself. You can use the room to:
- close your eyes for a while
- pray
- meditate
- reduce sensory input
- simply be alone for a moment
Everyone is welcome. The quiet room is open to all students and staff of Odisee and KU Leuven.
Below you can find more information about the quiet rooms and how to use them.
Sometimes students and staff need silence. This can be for many different reasons. We want to make space for anyone who needs it.
- Campus Brussels: room 2101 on the second floor of the Hermes building (opening: 6 March 2026)
- Campus Terranova: room T5102.6 (opening: first half of March 2026)
- Campus Schaarbeek: there is no separate quiet room. You can ask for a sign at reception to place on a classroom door, so you can use the room in silence.
- Campus Dilbeek: room 2207.
- Campus Aalst: there is a low-stimulus room for students with an O-status in room -1W12. The inclusive quiet room is expected to open during May.
- Campus Ghent: there is currently a quiet room in room D046. From January 2028, a new and improved space will open in the new building at Bargiekaai.
- Campus Sint-Niklaas: there is a quiet room in room 010 and a low-stimulus room with an O-status in room N339.
- Keep the room completely quiet.
- Use the room on your own. It is not intended for gathering with a group.
- Respect the maximum number of people if this is indicated.
- Respect the peace and space of others.
- Do not use a mobile phone, tablet or laptop. Set devices to silent and keep them in your bag or coat.
- Do not eat or drink.
- Put materials back in the cupboard after use.
- Treat the furniture with care.
- Take your rubbish with you. Do not leave personal items behind.
- If you pray in separate groups in the rooms, please use no more than two zones and always leave one zone free for others.
- When you finish using a zone and no one comes after you, open the curtain to show the zone is free.
We want everyone to feel welcome. To keep the space calm for everyone, please follow these rules:
For the rooms in Brussels and Terranova, and later also in Aalst and Ghent:
Some quiet rooms have a sink nearby. Please keep this area clean and avoid spilling water on the floor.
You can use the room during campus opening hours.
- is comfortably furnished with soft seating, cushions, gentle lighting and a silent clock
- is calm and low in sensory stimuli
- the rooms in Brussels and Terranova, and later also in Aalst and Ghent:
- can be divided into several zones using curtains
- have a cupboard with items to help you relax or pray, such as mats, prayer clothing, books and religious texts
- include a sticker that shows the Qibla
The quiet room:
Yes, absolutely. Prayer is possible in all quiet rooms.
The rooms in Brussels and Terranova, and the new rooms in Aalst and Ghent, have at least three zones. This allows people to pray in separate zones if they wish. We do ask that one zone is always kept free for others.
The quiet room is a space with few stimuli. You do sometimes share the room with other people, so it is not completely stimulus‑free.
Do you need to be fully alone for a while? In that case, you can use the first aid room. Please go to the reception desk on your campus. The reception staff will tell you where the first aid room is located.
- Brussels Center and Terranova: Lisa Ghyselink and Caroline Verschueren
- Schaerbeek: Julie Bultynck or the reception staff if Julie is not present
- Dilbeek: Julie Bultynck or the reception staff if Julie is not present
- Aalst: Inge Vandermeiren
- Ghent: Lieselot Van Droogenbroeck
- Sint-Niklaas: Sofie Raes and Hélène De Kegel
