AEP-Pulse

AEP-Pulse is a cross-border research project dedicated to circular production in three innovative sectors: aquaculture, insect farming and plant breeding. These sectors face challenges such as resource scarcity, environmental pressures and labor shortages. AEP-Pulse is developing and demonstrating the Aqua-Entomo-Ponics (AEP) system, in which waste streams from one sector serve as resource for the other. This leads to more sustainable, efficient and socially acceptable production methods.

Aqua-Entomo-Ponics for circular production

AEP-Pulse is building a smart, circular collaboration between aquaculture, entomoculture and hydroponics. By linking these three innovative cultivation systems, residual streams are optimally utilized, creating a production that uses less energy, water, land and raw materials. Non-sustainable raw materials are replaced as much as possible with affordable and sustainable alternatives such as circular fish and shrimp feed, and biostimulants and fertilizers for plants.

The project brings together companies, researchers and educational institutions from Flanders and the Netherlands. By combining expertise and infrastructure, knowledge is exchanged faster, investments can be used more efficiently and new products find their way to the market more easily.

In close cooperation with SMEs, educational and research institutions, AEP-Pulse works on practice-oriented innovations such as circular feeds, biostimulants and smart management systems. Through demonstration sites and customized educational modules, the results are made widely accessible to companies, students, governments and consumers.

In this way, AEP-Pulse makes a concrete contribution to a future-oriented, circular economy in Flanders and the Netherlands.
