Through innovative extraction techniques, including ultrasonic extraction, these residual streams are converted into valuable extracts, which are subsequently thoroughly characterised using advanced analytical methods such as UHPLC and photometric assays.

The obtained extracts are screened for their functional properties, including antioxidant capacity, antimicrobial activity, and enzyme inhibition, and are tested in relevant applications such as crop protection and skin-targeted formulations. This integrated approach—progressing from extraction and analytical characterisation to functional evaluation—makes it possible to understand the underlying mechanisms of bioactivity and translate them into scalable, circular innovations.

By making targeted use of residual streams, this research contributes to more efficient biomass utilisation and the development of sustainable solutions within a circular economy.
