Circular foundations for buildings
We design circularly responsible solutions for the foundation base and the adjoining floor system. To enable future reuse of construction materials at the foundation level, there is a need for an accessible and easy-to-use design guide that clearly presents broadly supported solutions. In co-creation with the sector and academic partners, we develop scientifically sound construction details through focus groups and build full-scale 1:1 models, ensuring the information is conveyed unambiguously.
To reduce environmental impact during major renovations, we are exploring the possibility of constructing the foundation base and adjoining floor slab using as little concrete as possible. A diverse team of designers, structural engineers, manufacturers, contractors, and users is working on this topic with the aim of creating a design guide to support decision-making and implementation processes.
Through full-scale 1:1 models built during the research, we gain insights into the handling and application of materials.

Our partners
Over the years, the research group's network has grown into a close-knit pool of pioneers within the field of circular construction. For this project, a focus group was assembled consisting of knowledge centres, sector organisations, manufacturers, designers, and contractors.
