SBO Language-Stimulating Competencies in Preschool Teachers

Language development in preschoolers is essential for their academic success, and language-stimulating interactions in the classroom play a crucial role in this. However, research shows that these interactions are often limited and of low quality, especially for vulnerable children.

The TACOS project aims to change this by supporting (student) preschool teachers through a blended learning professional development intervention. This programme strengthens their language-stimulating competencies, which include knowledge, beliefs, situation-specific skills, and classroom behaviour. The research is based on Blömeke’s (2015) competence model and investigates how these competencies develop through targeted professionalisation.
