Traineeship or Study programme across the language border
Would you like to discover a new language and culture in Belgium? With Erasmus Belgica, you can study or do a traineeship in another region of the country. You will have the opportunity to learn and grow in a new environment. Please note that this exchange does not come with a grant. To participate, you must meet the eligibility requirements.
What are your options?
With Erasmus Belgica, you can study at a partner institution in the German-speaking or French-speaking Community. You can also do a traineeship in Wallonia or the East Cantons.
Are you pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education or Secondary Education with French as part of your programme? If so, you can opt for an inter-community exchange. You’ll then study at a partner institution on the other side of the language border.

What happens after you apply?
What can you expect?
- Your study programme or traineeship remains part of your Odisee curriculum.
- The credits you earn will be fully recognised by Odisee.
- You stay enrolled as an Odisee student during your exchange.
- If you receive a Flemish study grant, you can continue to receive it during your exchange.
- Your school insurance remains valid throughout your stay.
- You do not pay any extra fees to the host institution, such as registration or examination fees.

Preparation
Once you have been nominated for a partner institution, you can start your registration and prepare a preliminary study programme, even if you have not yet received your final advice. Be sure to keep an eye on the application deadlines set by the partner institution! -

Advice
After the examination period, your departmental coordinator internationalisation will let you know whether or not you can go on an exchange. If you didn't receive a positive advice, you can contact your departmental coordinator for more information.

Follow up on your exchange through Mobility Online
All administration for your exchange are handled through Mobility Online.

Learning Agreement for Studies or Traineeships
By September 1 at the latest, you must have a final Learning Agreement for Studies or Learning Agreement for Traineeships. This document must be signed by you, your departmental coordinator internationalisation, and the partner institution.
As a guideline, you should select courses worth about 20 ECTS credits for a three-month study period. 24 ECTS credits for four months, and 30 ECTS credits for a full semester.
Please note! A “Learning Agreement for Studies” is only academically recognised if it has been signed by all parties. Once the agreement has been signed, you are expected to follow the study programme you agreed on.
Minor changes can still be made, but only if all parties agree and the changes are submitted within one month after the start of your exchange.
IMPORTANT! Any changes to your Learning Agreement for Studies must be registered in Mobility Online. Please also inform your departmental coordinator internationalisation and the International Relations Office.
During your exchange
During your stay, you’ll stay in touch with your departmental coordinator internationalisation, who helps ensure the quality of your study programme.
After your exchange
After your exchange, there are a few final steps to complete in Mobility Online.
For study exchanges
- Ask your host institution to complete and sign your Study Certificate and upload it to Mobility Online. This document confirms the exact dates of your exchange. If your host institution does not provide a certificate, you can use a blank template.
- Upload your Transcript of Records. This is an official document showing the results you achieved during your exchange.
- Attend the mandatory debriefing session organised by your programme or the International Relations Office.
For a traineeship
- Ask your host organisation to complete and sign your Traineeship Certificate and upload it to Mobility Online. This document confirms your participation in and the duration of your traineeship.

Grades for the courses taken abroad are converted according to this ECTS conversion table, as described in the Education and Examination Regulations.
