Eye Care

For the academic year 2022-2023 the study programme of Eye Care does not offer any type of exchange programme.

 

In the study programme of Eye Care you will be trained to become an orthoptist-optometrist, the specialist of the visual system. Do you like to help people, but also love science? Then read on! Odisee is the only university college in Flanders where you can become an orthoptist-optometrist.

Long traineeship (20 ECTS)

The course component can consist of a tailor-made traineeship or a scientific project. A combination of both can be considered as a possibility, but this needs to be agreed upon in advance.

  • Tailor-made traineeship

    The traineeship is aimed at acquiring laboratory skills in orthoptics, optometric skills, visual training, low vision skills and contact lens fitting skills. It can take place at several locations: optician shops including optometry, optometry practices, contact lens practices, low vision practices, ophthalmological practices, hospitals, Odisee Campus Terranova in Brussels.

  • Scientific project

    Another option can be a scientific project based on scientific research at our campus.

Credits

  • The traineeship is open for students in Optometry, and is in Dutch or French (some possibilities in German or English).
  • The course component requires travelling to different locations in the Dutch, French and/or German communities of the country.
  • Number of European credits: 20.
  • Spring semester.

Campus Brussels-Terranova

The traineeship is managed from the Terranova Campus in Brussels.

Insurance

As a registered student, you are insured for the study-related activities at Odisee, with the civil liability policy and with the collective insurance for accidents, after intervention of the health insurance company.
