Accessible General Practice: Innovative Primary Care

This project aims to strengthen general practice through smart practice innovations. Through research, co-creation, and pilot projects, a dynamic working tool will be developed to help general practitioners work more efficiently, reduce their workload, and keep care accessible. In this way, we support doctors in their daily practice and contribute to a resilient and future-oriented primary care system.

Innovative Project for Accessible General Practice in Aalst

GP care is under pressure due to growing demand for care, a decreasing number of available physicians and increasing patient attrition. In this project we focus on practice-based research, co-creation and impact measurement to develop sustainable solutions that contribute to workable and accessible care.

Together with GPs from the Aalst region, we are building innovative pilot projects and a practical working tool that supports them in organizing their practice more efficiently. In this way, we strengthen primary care and ensure that patients continue to receive the care they need.

Problem Statement

The Aalst region is facing increasing pressure on general practice. The combination of an aging population, rising demand for care, and a declining number of active general practitioners is leading to a growing number of patient stops and reduced accessibility of care. At the same time, general practitioners experience a high workload, which undermines the attractiveness and sustainability of the profession.

Project Goal

The project aims to strengthen the accessibility of general practice in the Aalst region by supporting general practitioners in implementing practice-oriented innovations that enhance efficiency and create workable conditions. Through a dynamic working tool, developed based on literature, local best practices, and pilot projects, concrete solutions are provided to help doctors optimize their practice organization. The ultimate goal is to achieve sustainable improvements that not only increase the quality and accessibility of care but also improve satisfaction for both doctors and patients.

Method

The project consists of three phases:

  1. Exploration and development
  2. Implementation
  3. Evaluation and adjustment

Expected output

The project will deliver a digital, user-friendly tool filled with practical examples, measurement results, and implementation tips to support general practitioners in organizing their practice more efficiently. Through a series of pilot projects, we will demonstrate how practice innovations contribute to better accessibility and workability in general practice. At the same time, a sustainable network of care partners will be established to ensure ongoing knowledge sharing, support, and strengthening of primary care.
