Urban Dynamics: Exploring Migration, Human Rights and Inclusion in Education and Society
International Programme: Faculty of Education & Faculty of Applied Social Studies
The programme is open to all students, enrolled in a teacher education programme or applied social studies, who wish to broaden their knowledge and skills in an urban context. The programme offers a combination of theoretical modules (lectures/group work/workshops/self-study/field visits) with a practice-oriented approach. The field practice contains 2 weeks of practice, in line with students’ field of interest. Students develop a portfolio.
This international module aims to create a learning community with a focus on:
- Migration and transnational relationships (6 ECTS)
- Human and children’s rights (6 ECTS)
- Inclusion in education and society (6 ECTS)
- Skills and networks in a metropolitan context (6 ECTS)
- Field practice (6 ECTS)
A brand-new programme
In February 2025, we proudly launched the very first edition of Urban Dynamics at the Brussels Campus! This innovative joint programme, developed by the departments of Education and Social Work, focuses on a range of topical issues, trends, and challenges that current and future social and education professionals face in an urban context.
Thanks to a strong collaboration between the Teacher Training and Social studies departments, this international programme came to life.
The result? An engaging and diverse learning experience with students from 8 different countries and 4 different continents! Odisee students took part in the programme as well. This cultural mix makes for some really interesting discussions and insights!
Approach and work forms
Throughout the semester, students explored themes such as inclusion in education and society, migration and transnational relations, and human and children's rights. In addition to field practice, the programme offered a rich variety of learning formats, including lectures, field visits, guest speakers, and interactive exercises.
As a kick-off, there's even a two-day field trip packed with group dynamics exercises and interesting visits. All this engendered an inspiring process that not only broadened their view but also enriched our campus.
