Disability Status

Do you have a specific diagnosis, or did you receive additional support in the past? If so, we will determine how we can support you. This may involve providing information relevant to your situation, offering a customized program, arranging special accommodations within the educational setting, and/or referring you to support services within or outside of Odisee.

Students must submit their application via the student status application system, no later than the deadline for submitting the ISP (before 15 october if you want to start in the first semester, before 25 february if you want to start in the second semester) or as soon as possible after the circumstances have arisen.

With this status, you can apply for accommodations and/or obtain a certificate for your scholarship from the Flemish government.

👉 What are special accommodations?

An accommodation refers to provided assistance, an adjustment, … on the basis of a valid reason. In your situation, this means that we will assess whether any accommodations are needed to make it easier for you to combine your study program with your disability. This involves individual, tailor-made arrangements.

Please note: submitting an application does not automatically mean you will receive these accommodations. Together we will take a broad perspective to determine what will best help you.

👉 Who can apply?

This status can be granted to students with:

  • Developmental disorder: dyslexia, dyscalculia, or dysorthography, autism spectrum disorder, AD(H)D;
  • a long-term physical or mental health condition;
  • Sensory impairment: auditory, visual and/or motor;
  • a report indicating a need for additional support or a GC report from secondary school.

As a student at Odisee, you are automatically entitled to a range of inclusive facilities and software. For many students with, for example , attention deficit disorders, dyslexia, dysorthographia, or dyscalculia, this often provides sufficient support. So first, consider carefully about whether a Special Status is really necessary for you.

In addition, STUVO offers various online workshops, such as those on planning and study skills. These can also help you study more effectively.

👉 How can you request the special status?

If you meet the requirements mentioned above, you can apply for the “Special Status” via the student status application system to receive accommodations. Always follow the step-by-step guide below when submitting your application!

You can submit one of the following documents to apply for Special Status via the status application:

  • proof of registration with the Flemish Agency for People with Disabilities
  • a certificate of disability recognition from the Directorate General for People with Disabilities (certificate of increased child allowance or certificate of income replacement and/or integration allowance)
  • a substantiated report issued by an accredited service (CLB, rehabilitation center, Code, Praxis P, etc.) if you have a learning disability. This report must include assessment reports, an overview of the tests administered, the results obtained, and the conclusions of the assessment
  • a substantiated report or a “common curriculum” report from the CLB if you received support in secondary school as part of a specific educational needs program
  • a report from the internal student counseling service if you received accommodations (increased support) in secondary school
  • a report from a doctor or specialist
    • stating the diagnosis, severity, disease activity, and follow-up
    • with an explanation of educational and/or exam needs
    • stating any support already received in the past, if applicable

 Do you not have any of these documents?

In that case, you must submit a VLOR certification package, completed by a physician or licensed psychologist authorized to treat the target group. It is important that, if there are multiple diagnoses, the physician lists all relevant diagnoses on the certification package.

Important: The document must be completed in full and bear the stamp of the treating physician (or family doctor).

Certificate for your Scholarship from the Flemish Government

If you are enrolled for fewer than 54 credits, you will no longer be eligible for a scholarship from the Flemish Government. This condition does not apply to certain exceptional categories. With a certificate confirming your Special Status, you can still apply for a scholarship as a student in one of these exceptional categories.

The deadlines listed on this page apply only to obtaining accommodations at Odisee. If you need a certificate for the application of your scholarship from the Flemish Government, you may do so at any time during the academic year.
