Depending on your situation and plans, you can choose one of these three options:

  1. Extension of residence permit

If you intend to continue studying in Belgium, you can extend your current residence permit. To do so, you have to follow the standard procedure. (LINK will follow)

Please note: in order to be able to extend your residence permit, you must prove that you have sufficient financial means.

  2. Orientation year

If you graduate this year and want to look for work in Belgium, you can extend your current residence permit for one year on the basis of an orientation year. More information on what an orientation year is and how you can apply for it can be found at (LINK will follow).

Please note: in order to extend your residence card, you must prove that you have sufficient financial means.

  3. Temporary protection status (Ukrainian citizens only)

Ukrainian citizens can currently make use of the temporary protection status if the situation in Ukraine does not allow for a return. More information on the temporary protection status can be found on the website of the Belgian Immigration Office.

Please note: if you reside in Belgium under the temporary protection status, you cannot apply for an orientation year when your residence permit expires. You can only apply for an orientation year if your previous residence card was based on your studies.

It is currently not possible to travel to Ukraine, Russia or Belarus as part of your study programmes or work assignment. The Federal Public Service Foreign Affairs has issued a negative travel advice for these regions:

Belarus

Russia

Ukraine

Prospective students and staff

Candidates from Ukraine can apply for admission. The procedure you have to follow depends on your situation. Please contact admissions@odisee.be before applying.

Candidates from Russia and Belarus who need a visa for Belgium can apply for admission until 1 May via this procedure. (LINK will follow)

Depending on the conditions and rules of the exchange programme, we are willing to admit students with Ukrainian nationality in our exchange programmes. In general, students can only follow an exchange programme at Odisee if their home institution has a signed exchange agreement with Odisee. We do not have exchange agreements with universities (of applied sciences) in Ukraine, but given the circumstances, we are happy to find a solution. However, it is not possible to obtain a scholarship for this exchange.

We are willing to receive incoming students from our Russian partner institutions if their home institution declares officially that they do not support the war in Ukraine. There are currently no grants available for students from our Russian partners who wish to follow an exchange programme at Odisee. The statement of the European Commission with more information can be read on the website of the European Commission.
