Mobility for students

Our Student Facilities Department, STUVO, aims for sustainable mobility. We encourage the use of public transport and bicycles to get to campus. These means of transport are also ideal ways to explore the surroundings of your campus and take part in sports and cultural activities that are part of (student) life.

Thanks to the special student rates for the STIB, De Lijn and the SNCB, you can travel to and fro with public transport to your heart's content. Renting a bike is not expensive either.

If you cannot find an answer to your question or a solution to your situation, be sure to get in touch with the STUVO staff. You can call us, send an email, make an appointment by email/online or drop by during our opening hours.

Season tickets

The Buzzy Pazz is the cheapest option for young people under the age of 24 who regularly travel by bus or tram. This pass entitles you to unlimited travel throughout Flanders. You can choose the period of validity yourself: 1 month, 3 months or 12 months. More than 1 Buzzy Pazz in the family gives you extra advantages as well!
If you over 24 and you regularly take the bus, the Omnipas is the cheapest option for you. With that pass, you can travel by De Lijn bus or tram for a whole year. If you only travel by public transport occasionally, it is better to buy a ticket for one journey or a 10-ride ticket.
More information is available on the De Lijn website and the Buzzy Pazz website.

How do you go about it?

Hand in your Lijn certificate together with an enrolment certificate at your local Lijnwinkel before you buy your Buzzy Pazz or Omnipas. Your discount will be immediately deducted from the price of your season ticket.

Please note: if you have already bought your season ticket and didn’t use the certificate to get the discount, you won’t get a refund. If you buy or renew your season ticket online, you CANNOT use the discount. Here too, you CANNOT cash in the discount afterwards!

When does our discount not work

You cannot receive discounts via STUVO if you already have a family discount or a combined SNCB-DE Lijn season ticket. In the latter case, you already receive a discount.

Our discount can (with a few exceptions) be combined with a discount from your municipality or city.

So check which combination and discount has most benefits for you!

Student railcards

Do you take the train to campus almost every day? Then a Student Railcard is the cheapest option. You choose the travel route and a period of validity (1 month, 3 months or 12 months), and then you can travel on that route with no restrictions within that period.

Student Multi (Campus card)

Are you a student who lives nearby or do you only travel to campus a few times a week? Then the Student Multi (Campus Card) is the ideal card for you. The price of a campus card depends on the distance travelled, but is always less than a Go Pass. With this card, you can make 5 outward and return journeys of the same length between two Belgian stations within a period of 49 calendar days.

How do I apply for a railcard or Multi?

To get a Student Railcard or Student Multi, you must present your identity card and a enrolment certificate from your educational institution to the ticket office in the train station where they will issue the master card for your railcard.

Are you older than 26?

In that case, you will have to pay the regular fares on SNCB and you won’t be able to get a student discount. Have a look at the SNCB website to find the cheapest fare for you.

MIVB public transport (Brussels)

Renew a school season ticket

  • On school.mivb.be, show us your original school certificate for the current school or academic year, issued by an educational institution in the European Union
  • The day after receiving confirmation, go to your nearest GO ticket machine
  • Place your personal MOBIB card on the device carrier
  • Select the desired school season ticket
  • Pay and you’re ready to go!

Buying a new school season ticket

  • Go to a BOOTIK with an ID and a photo, if it is not an electronic identity card (eID), or use our online purchase GO EASY with an electronic identity card (eID). In both cases, you will need an original school certificate. This certificate must have been issued during the current school or academic year by an educational institution within the European Union.
  • Buy a personal MOBIB card
  • Load your school season ticket on the card
  • Pay and you’re ready to go!

Besides the MIVB school season ticket which gives you unlimited access to the entire MIVB network, there is also the MTB school subscription. You can use this to access the entire MIVB network as well as use the Brussels city networks of De Lijn, TEC and NMBS. Again, the fares depend on the number of children in the family and the number of subscriptions bought by one family.

Are you 25 years or older? In that case, you pay the regular fares and are no longer eligible for the student discount. Find your ideal fare on the MIVB website.

Fares

A school season ticket costs 12 euro for 12 months for students up to 24 years old who are either living in Brussels or studying in Brussels. In this latter case, you will need to upload a proof of registration at your university.

If you are an exchange student, you can also buy the school season ticket at this reduced fare by presenting the MIVB the proof of registration of the university in your home country or of the university in Brussels (if you have received this).

If you need to take the public transport on a daily basis, this season ticket is cheaper than using a multiple journeys card of 10 journeys and you can travel within Brussels Capital Region unlimited.

There are 2 types of season tickets:

  • The STIB-MIVB school season ticket gives access to the complete MIVB network (underground/tram/bus) and costs 12 euro for 12 months.
  • The Brupass school season ticket gives access to the complete as well as additional access to the network of the NMBS (train), De Lijn and TEC in Brussels and costs 52 euro for 12 months.
